A Community That Cannot Feed Its People

"A community that cannot feed its people is at the mercy of whoever can." 

The pandemic did not create a food crisis, it shined a big spot light on the crisis already in existence in the United States. Currently, 4 major meat packers control the meat prices in our country. 

Four. Big. Corporations. control what Americans pay for meat in our grocery stores. 

Good or bad, federal and state policy ALWAYS plays out at the LOCAL level. Through the years, bad policy after bad policy passed by both Republicans and Democrats, has continued to hurt America's family farms and ranches. 50 years ago, in Montana, Montana family farms and ranches raised and processed 70% of our food. This is true for other states as well. 

Today, we raise and process less than 10% of our own food. 

Bad policy has allowed mega corporations to rise while family farms die and Americans are paying the price, literally, with our pocket books and our health.
