The Virus Hit Me Like A Ton Of Bricks
Today, I tested positive for COVID. I do not know when or where I came into contact with a person or persons who were contagious, which is common with this virus. The virus hit me like a ton of bricks late Tuesday/early Wednesday.
My symptoms have been the following:
Sore throat
Fever
Headache
Body aches
Repeated waves of body heat causing me to sweat turning into intense chills causing me to shake turning into nausea
To keep my parents safe, I am isolated away from them in our home and I wear a tight fitting N95 mask. Thankfully, we have had the most wonderful in home care in place for my parents from St. John's United. I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of skilled and compassionate care my mom has received from the amazing staff at St. John's United. We love them. I look forward to sharing more about this extraordinary organization and the skilled services they provide. They have been a Godsend to my mom and our family.
Me and my family are vaccinated. Thank God. The vaccines do not prevent COVID, but rather reduce the possibility of getting extremely sick or dying from COVID. This virus is brutal. Knowing what I've felt the past couple of days, I have a greater understanding of the suffering those who have been so ill with this virus experience. My heart breaks for them, and for the medical professionals working to care for COVID patients. The suffering is so great for both.
My family is fortunate. We have systems in place for care. This week has been one from which I am learning just how fortunate we are.
